This year, we’re joining Morguard’s North Pole Express , a four-week donation drive with a heartfelt mission. It’s our way of coming together to spread joy and bring smiles to foster children across the country through Comfort Cases, a nonprofit dedicated to helping kids feel seen, loved, and valued. What Is the North Pole Express? 🎅 Imagine a sleigh overflowing with gifts—not just toys, but essentials and special touches to brighten a child’s day. The North Pole Express is a nationwide drive where Morguard communities, including ours here at 1643 Josephine, collect donations to support children in foster care. For the next four weeks, our lobby will transform into a festive drop-off point for your generous contributions. Who Are We Supporting? 💙 This year, we’re partnering with Comfort Cases , an incredible organization that provides foster children with backpacks filled with essentials like books, cozy pajamas, hygiene products, and other comforting items. Many children enter foster care with their belongings in trash bags, so these comfort cases offer them dignity and hope, showing them that they are truly valued. How Can You Make a Difference? 🎁 We’d love for you to join us in making this holiday season extra special! From now through December 13th, simply drop off any of the following items in our collection box located in the lobby: New pajamas (all sizes welcome) Diaper wipes (packs of 10-48) Children’s board books (to spark a love of reading) Small blankets & stuffed animals (perfect for a cozy hug) Baby washcloths (to help keep little ones clean) Whether you donate a single item or a whole bag, every bit helps to make a child’s holiday brighter. With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, there will be festive events across the nation. At 1643 Josephine, opportunities for celebration surround us! St. Patrick's Day has a long history - in Ireland, the United States, and beyond. Historically, this day recognizes the patron saint of Ireland for his good deeds. In contrast, modern St. Patrick's Day events typically focus on Irish heritage and pride as a whole. The United States is always heavily involved in the celebration of this holiday. Historians say the first St. Patty's Day parade actually took place in North America. Today, celebrating St. Patrick's Day takes a lot of forms. Parades are still a classic choice, but bar crawls, restaurant specials, and block parties are also popular. No matter your style, you can find a way to partake in the festivities. We love the flexibility and convenience that living in a New Orleans apartment community gives us. The best that New Orleans has to offer lays just outside of our community doors, including some great St. Patrick’s Day events and activities! So, wear some green and check out the festivities going on in the New Orleans community! St. Patrick's Day Events in New Orleans, and More! New Orleans is always teeming with great events, and activities, and St. Patrick’s Day is certainly no exception! For those looking to celebrate in a more traditional way, with a New Orleans flair, check out the Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16 th on Magazine Street, or the Downtown Irish Club St. Patrick’s Day Parade beginning at Washington Park on March 17 th . Already got your parade fill during Mardi Gras and looking for a different way to celebrate? Rest assure that New Orleans has you covered! At the end of the Channel Parade, stop by Tracy’s Block Party , an annual celebration in the Irish Channel with lots or green beer, corned beef and cabbage, and of course, lots of fun! If you’re looking to keep things more lowkey, New Orleans is teeming with great Irish Pubs with plenty of green beer and Irish flare! Check out some of our community’s favorites such as Parasol’s Bar, Mick’s Irish Pub, and Finn McCool’s Irish Pub. Celebrate From Home In our community, St. Patrick's Day celebrations are welcome. For specific guidelines or available spaces, reach out to our team! We would love to see how creative our residents can get. Here's just a couple ideas that could work in your apartment home this St. Patty's Day: For something more family friendly, potluck-styled Irish food could be a hit. Corned beef and cabbage are classics; however, there are other great Irish dishes. When in doubt, green colored sweet treats are always popular. Party games are also a way to stay more tame - or go crazy. For more of a challenge, try bringing an Irish twist to existing party games! Cocktails are a fun way to play into the green theme too. While beer is the typical choice, hosting a house party leaves room for creativity. "Lucky" cocktails or green mocktails sound delicious! Celebrating March 17, 2024 Ultimately, there is a plethora of ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We highlighted a handful but look into some more options if nothing sounds like the perfect fit!
